The Meadowside Charity Newton Abbot & District is a small, local charity which supports adults with learning disabilities.
Meadowside provides 24-hour permanent residential care for 11 adults with learning disabilities, many of whom also have physical disabilities and complex care requirements. Many residents have lived at the home for over 30 years and they all live together as a family, in a fun, happy and caring environment. There are also ‘members’ of the charity, who either live with relatives in the Teignbridge area or in sheltered housing in the town. They can use Meadowside as a ‘safe’ house and come along to various social events that are held throughout the year, including the Christmas party.
A recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) resulted in an ‘outstanding’ for one key line of enquiry, with ‘good’ for the remaining four areas of inspection, which is a fantastic achievement.
The home is a very happy place, with the residents being well looked after by the kind and friendly staff. It is important that the residents live their lives to the fullest, are given support to follow their dreams, visit the places they love and are accepted by the local community.
Some residents have very complex needs and require one to one support. Unless there is a requirement for emergency hospital treatment, our residents stay at Meadowside until their final days. ‘End of life’ care is provided, with plans in place and advice from organisations such as Rowcroft. The dedicated staff are all fully trained, not just to deal with the basic health requirements but also to deal with issues such as dementia, epilepsy and Asperger’s Syndrome.
